Death Valley 2007 (76 images)
We visited Death Valley National Park in March, 2007, for 3 nights. We camped at the Emigrant campsite and took a strenuous hike with a ranger in Surprise Canyon (6 miles roundtrip, climbing from 2200 to 4800 feet). The hike started near the ghost town of Ballarat. We also drove to Artist's Palette and to Scotty's Castle. We did short hikes near our campsite, near the Sand Dunes, near Dante's Peak, and near Zabriskie Point. Temperatures ranged from 60 degrees F in the early morning to 95 in the afternoon. The 450-mile drive from Santa Clara to Death Valley took us 9 hours.
